About us.....

Abingdon Carbon Cutters is a Community Action Group formed to help reduce the carbon footprint of Abingdon in response to climate change, and to promote a sustainable and resilient lifestyle for our town as fossil fuel stocks decline. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at St Ethelwold's House, which is here.

At some meetings, we have guest speakers to present various topics, and at others we discuss our own personal actions to address climate change. The group has a focus on encouragement, both of one another, and of the town community.

Age Of Stupid - world's biggest Premiere!

This sounds fun. Can you come? Sunday March 15th 5.45pm (doors open 5.15pm) at the Phoenix Cinema in Walton St. Print out a poster and tell your friends!

Get in the Guinness Book of Records for the world's biggest Premiere – in Oxford !!!!
"The Age of Stupid" is a new and powerful UK film which looks at the global effects of climate change should we ignore the current warning signs and don’t take action. It has already several awards and excellent reviews (see below) and crucially will help change peoples attitudes and behaviour…providing people go and see it! Attached is a promotional A4 poster - would you print and put at our workplace or local organisation and forward to friends and family to do the same! There are also pictures, logos and other artwork resources available here: www.ageofstupid.net/pr_resources

It is expected to be the world’s largest Premiere, screened concurrently from 70 cinemas around the UK to 16,000 people. Before the film, there will be a live satellite broadcast from the world's first solar-powered cinema in Leicester Square , where the celebs will be arriving in solar cars and bike rickshaws before walking the green carpet. After the film, there will be another satellite link-up to London when Pete Postlethwaite will officially launch the Not Stupid campaign.

In Oxford, Simon Kenton (Community Action Groups / Low Carbon Communities Network) will then explain what's happening locally and how people can get involved in taking positive action in their community. There will also be a "global" speaker, who will be explaining what people can do in the run-up to Copenhagen and answering any general questions about climate change. Those wanting to find out more can then meet with the speakers and other people involved in local groups over drink at a nearby venue.
